Prefix wrote up a story about how Amanda Palmer (who recently raised over 1 million dollars on Kickstarter) can’t pay her horn section for the entire tour and is asking professional musicians to donate their time by coming out and trying out for free. Also by practicing with Amanda’s band for FREE! And did I mention performing with her band when she comes through town also for free….. Well that’s not entirely the truth. Amanda Palmer actually offered free beers and hugs to the musicians that donate their time. Now this was very controversial and a lot of musicians and industry folks had a lot of opinions on this issue. However, why didn’t anyone have an issue with the fact that a music magazine who wrote the story and attacked Amanda Palmer on this issue had a Craigslist ad the week before about how they want music writers to write stories and submit but can not afford to pay the writers for the story? The writers would be “building their resume” if their work is published in Prefix Magazine. I was not able to find the Craigslist Ad but I was able to find a blog that noticed the same thing about Prefix Magazine and wrote up a fantastic article.
